Newegg non-refundable policy

I'm purchasing my first digital camera. Did a great deal of research, including sellers. Was all ready to purchase my Canon SD700 from Newegg. However, this particular model, along with some others, can be returned only for an exchange of the exact same item, and is totally non-refundable. Although I don't expect to need to return the camera for a refund, it makes me uneasy to know that I don't even have that option. Also, since Newegg says that most of their cameras are covered by a 30-day refundable policy, it makes me wonder why this particular model is not covered under that policy. I know the camera is a good one, and I know Newegg has an excellent reputation, but now I'm uneasy (and I hate to say it after all the great reviews, but also a tad suspicious) about purchasing the camera from them. Does anyone have any experience with this or know why some cameras are non-refundable? BTW, Newegg has the best price of the top 4 or 5 reputable dealers. Thanks for your input.

Yes, I've seen newegg do that with several items, not just cameras. I can only assume that it is probably that they are acting as a agent for a third party seller and it's not something they are shipping out of their warehouse. The items I've seen them do that with have a manufacturer's warranty and I assume they feel the problem should be handled via the manufacturer and not them, another thought is that perhaps they are not a factory authorized seller of that item and there might be some legal stuff they have to dance around to even be able to sell it. I can't imagine you don't even get a few days to rma it if it's defective, why not give them a call. I've done tons of business with newegg never had one problem with them.

I must say..........I have had only good experiences with newegg. I have purchased perhaps 20 or probably more things from them. They often have one of the lower prices on a product (when compared with other reputable dealers). They get the products to me in a quick fashion (even though I am on the other side of the country from them). And I have found that they stand behind their stuff.

I had one situation, where I bought a video card, and not a cheap one......and it had one of those "nonrefundable" comments that you speak of. Unfortunatley, I was INCORRECTLY turned down for a manufacturers rebate that I was obviously entitled to for $70 I think, and the company itself (the one that made the video card) would not answer my emails or mail (and they only had a foreign phone number).........and the rebate was the main reason I had bought that video card (besides the good reviews on the card itself).

It was one of these situations where you send in all the rebate stuff, and they turn you down because they said I was "outside the rebate period", even though the rebate form clearly said I was not. The rebate firm refused to budge, even though I faxed them a copy of the manufacturer's rebate form with the acceptable dates.

I called newegg...........and they looked into it.......and they could not get a hold of the company either. They not only stood behind their product and refunded me the rebate cost out of their own pocket, but when I told them I was worried about the company cause they would not return any of my emails or regular mail.......and if the card had problems........how would I get resolution, and Newegg stood behind their product and told me that if the product had any problems whatsoever within the warranty period, they would stand behind it themselves and see that the card was exchanged for either an identical card, or equivalent that would work.

So I must say......they went above and beyond........

The only thing I would say about them..........that is a negative....and I don't know if they have changed it.......is they seem to screen their product reviews.....and if you say anything negative about the product, they would not post it. I had one instance, where I bought a product, returned it for another similar product due to a problem. I posted the same review on both products......thinking perhaps I could help someone in a similar situation, and they posted the reveiw only on the second product.......I assume cause I had written something negative about the possible flaws on the first product. (similar had happened on more than one occasion, so I do believe it was intentional)


Overall.........I rate them highly as a resaler. High points for price, selection, and customer service!

Many online retailers have a similar policy. I got stuck with an extra (yes extra) laptop from Buy.com when I accidentally purchased two. Oh well, that meant the wife got one and I got the other. Looking back at it, I'd say it was a good thing, but I didn't feel that way back then.

I too rate Newegg very highly. I would still buy from them. Although most of my high ticket item money goes to J&R in New York. I've purchased my Canon 20D and Apple iBook from them.
