Photosmart 735 - Flash not working

Hello, Does anyone have any ideas why the flash would stop working on this camera? It takes great pictures otherwise, so long as it is outside or where a flash is not necessary.

I tried the following:
- Replace the batteries with a couple different brand akalines. I've used Energizer Max batteries and the flash used to work
- Did a hard reset on the camera
- Tried all the different flash settings and camera modes

Someone told me I may need some photo lithum batteries for the flash to work, but I hate to go buy those more expensive batteries just to try, and the flash used to work fine with the akalines.

Any ideas on something I may not have tried? Could just the flash unit itself break and the rest of the camera work fine?
