Vivitar 3715 no image-now lines in pictures

I have a Vivitar 3715 DC that I got as a gift last Christmas. It worked fine until last week there was no picture...just darkness. The LCD worked, I tried to take pics but they were black nothing. like the lens cap was on. It has a sliding lens cover. Soooooo... rather than sending it inwith no sales slip (gift) I opened it up to try to see if I could fix it. I didn't see anything obvious so I put it back together and tried it out. It now has a picture image !! EXCEPT... The pictures are now out of focus and have thin horizontal lines thru them. Is anyone familiar enough with this and can it be fixed somehow without major electronic surgery???
