Does Nikon have something similar to the Canon G7?

There are some things about the G7, as a high end point and shoot that I find quite appealing. I'd like to know if Nikon has anything similar to this camera. The resolution doesn't have to be quite as high, but I'd like for it to feature at least a 5x zoom range with VR and a hotshoe. I'd really like to be able to use Nikon's flash system with it.
I guess I'm really asking if Nikon plans on making a successor to the 8400?
