Default 5700 crapped out?

I got my camera out of it's bag yesterday, for the first time in a couple of months, and it seems to have crapped out. Instead of seeing anything thru the viewfinder/LCD monitor, everything is black, much as it would with the lens cap on...NO, I checked that...
Everything else works fine, zoom, takes pics, (all black of course) and I can see other pics in the LCD from the CF card. What has gone wrong with this thing?
TIA.

Well, as it turns out, this is a wide-spread problem...

Interesting; I was about to post an identical problem with my Coolpix 4500. Your 5700 looks to be covered by their service advisory, though, but my 4500 isn't.

Update: I just e-mailed Nikon and they said that, while the 4500 is not specifically covered by that service advisory, to send it in and they would provide an evaluation. Might as well do it, as it is of no value to me in its current state. To Nikon's credit, they responded to my e-mail in less than an hour.

Boomer, yes it is a wide-spread problem, but not to worry, Nikon will fix it.
Mine was there & back in about 2 weeks at no charge.
Cheers

My apologies for not updating this thread. I had forgotten all about it.

Many thanks for the info on the CCD issue. I sent my camera to Nikon and they did the repair, cleaned and adjusted the camera at no extra cost, and returned it very quickly.
