Default Auto Focus (Help)

Hi,

Need assistance... guess I am too new to digital photography... & intend to learn from experts around.

I have a problem with auto focus. I am using coolpix L1. In this, while I want to use full zoom (5x)... invariably autofocus indicates RED. However if I go close to object (reducing zoom level to nealy nill), autofocus works indicating GREEN. I have no idea what the issue is.

I was wondering if this was an issue related to zoom lense or lighting or some setting issue? I have tried this during a day light with decent light as well.

any help will be great ...

Cheers,

Heeemz

How close are you when using the full zoom ?

If you are too close then autofocus will not be able to get a lock, you could try macro mode in that case.

I am generally 8 feet away from an object while I try using full zoom.

I just tried it with my L1 and at full digital zoom I get a red flashing dot with "AF" next to it as opposed to the red flashing bracket symbol you get when you're too close to focus. I don't have my booklet handy but I suggest you look up what that red dot indicates and you should have the answer. I can look in my booklet tomorrow if you don't have yours.

Personally I'm very disappointed in the overall sharpness and clarity of the lens on my L1. I've had it about a month and it's no where close as sharp as my three year old Kodak 5 megapixel digital. All the images are soft throughout the entire depth of the image. It's not like it's focusing on the wrong area. It's not sharp anywhere in the image. Great camera otherwise but to me sharpness is about #1. I may send it to Nikon and have it looked at. It was going to replace my Kodak for family and backpacking shots but I still use the Kodak and let the kids fool with the Nikon.
