Default Nikon CoolPix 5700 Service Bulletin

IMPORTANT:
http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images...y/coolpix.html

The link above is to a Service Advisory for - Nikon D2H, D70, N55, Coolpix 3100, Coolpix 5700, Coolpix SQ.

Yesterday there were several posts concerning the COOLPIX 5700 regarding "black screen."

Please be advised that Nikon is taking care of this. Please go to NIKON web site at above link and print the Service Advisory Prodcut Return Form. I called Nikon to determine the legitimacy of the advisory - it is legitimate.

Thanks for the opportunity to use this forum.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't seem that this advisory has anything to do with the D2H, D70 or N55.

Smile Thanks for the post

Ray,

When you get down in the nitty-gritty of the Nikon advisory it very clearly states all of the cameras I listed... it is a direct quote. I sincerely hope you are not offended in any way. Sometimes too much information is not enough,

Respectfully,
John

This is the "entire" text from the advisory you linked.

"It has come to our attention that in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides detailed return instructions.

The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience."

Maybe I'm just blind, which is certainly possible, but I don't see it.

Additionally, instruction #1 in the return form clearly states:

"1. Please send only the COOLPIX 3100-5700-SQ camera as listed in this Service Advisory. Do not send any other accessory or product through this Service Advisory."

It doesn't get much more nitty gritty than that.

Ray.

Default OK Ray

Ray,

Your reply to me is a waste of your time and mine - the world is not black and white - it is in color and color includes mistakes. I am really sorry that I made a mistake here on this forum. I was just trying to be helpful.

When you go to NIKON support they include in the INITIAL advisory all the cameras I mentioned - and the next link (well hidden on the initial page below the other cameras ) includes the link you copied and pasted here on the forum.

I feel very awkward trying to support folks on this forum with people who flame you when you support them, Ray.

I have been at this photography racket for more than 55 years, been a geek for more than 60 years (geek wasn't even a word back then), worked as an electrical engineer, nuclear engineer, mechanical engineer, web designer, developer, teacher, and student, and for the past 13 years played in the field of technology as a third level trainer both in hardware and software for several major corporations and the Federal government.

And, somewhere along the way I learned something absolutely simple, but very important. We are here to support the SUCCESS of others - We are not here to tear others down or belittle them and their contributions regardless of their seemingly unimportance.

As I go thru this life, I meet some really nice people (unlike you) who want to take the time to do nitty gritty correction of the most unimportant details, without a single concern for the feelings of the person who is making some simple contribution to the success of others. You fall into that category - rude and uncaring. I really am ashamed of you.

Respectfully,

John Underwood

I don't really understand your anger. I never said that you made a mistake. I have a D70 and was trying to find the information to which you were referring. Nowhere on the link you supplied did it give any information or have a link to an advisory for a D2H-D70-N55.

In my first reply, I said that maybe I was missing something(it has happened before), that the advisory you had linked didn't have any information about a D2H, D70 or N55. Instead of relplying with a clarification/link for the pertinent information, you say that it is clearly there, look harder.

Since you were unwilling to supply any further information, I went to Nikon Support where I searched for a link to the information. I'm sorry if asking you for the information makes me "rude and uncaring".

The following link will give information for all of the cameras listed.

What is wrong with you two. Ray, it seems as if John was ONLY trying to be helpful.
When my LCD & Electoonic veiwfinder went haywire, I panicked! The info on this page was most helpful, although I din find the advisory on my own, it was a comfort to know that my concerns were, shared.
Grow up!
One of the reasons that I hesitate to EVER post on this site is this kind of backbiting.

Default It's OK

Hello,

It is OK - thanks for the replies (both of them).

Sent my camera to Nikon yesterday - packed it according to their specs. We will see how the response is.

Bottom line, Nikon has the courage to note problems and solve them at their expense instead of ours.

John
