Default Viewfinder problems

I've had my 5700 camera for 2 years and all of a sudden I turn it on and see nothing. It's like the lenscap has not been removed. I see all the displays, battery is full charged but nothing in the viewfinder. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know what the problem could be. I have not dropped the camera or misused it in any way. thanks.

I too have suddenly experienced exactly the same problem as described by krdias. I have been succesfully been using the camera since July2004 and only since today my5700 has stopped working on the shooting mode. I can click, but the picture is also as if the lens cap is on.
The camera works absolutely fine on the playback mode.
The last thing I did with the camera was transfer pictures successfully on to my computer. The battery is fine and changing the battery or CF card has no effect. Somebody Please help

Perhaps the circuitry fried on the electronic viewfinder. With 2 years operation, it seems probable. Get the camera checked out. MAybe a problem with the wiring or fuse.

Default Same problem as yours

RE: Coolpix 5700 failures.
You are experiencing the same problem I am having... here is more detail... maybe it will help us get this issue resolved.

On a hunch, I recharged the battery, and inserted an earlier used COMPACTFLASH card in my 5700 that has many images already on it. I cannot view those images even though it does report the number of images present.

Additionally, if I take the same flash card and plug it into my pc, I can see the images.

If I put the same flash card back into the camera and "shoot" several more pictures, then put the flash card back into the pc, those just shot are "black."

It looks the same as when I had shutter failure or a closed iris or the lense cap on "back in the good ole days of film."

Anyone got any ideas? Looks like Nikon has provided us all a way to become a team (smile).

Thanks to everyone on the forum.

Respectfully,

John Underwood

Default Cp 5700

Not the same problem, weider!
I've had this camera for about 2 1/2 years, never a hitch. Last week in Chicago I took many pictures, no problem, 2 days ago I went to take some shots & the view finder & the lcd screen are LIME GREEN & yellow. the pictures when viewed are fuzzy even though the focus light is lit & the pictures, although NOT LIME, are very strange & not true colors.
Any Ideas? I have really liked this camera & am not ready for a new one

Thanks John. After I posted this morning I went on to the Nikon site & found said advisory. I spoke with a friendly man at Nikon tech support, & He says my camera's problem is covered.
