Default Canon EOS-10D replacement

I am thinking about getting the Canon EOS-10D and noticed that it was introduced over a year ago. Does anyone know if a replacement is coming out any time soon? Thanks.

Dave

Yes, it's being replaced within the next month to month and a half.

Default rumor or what?

Is your prediction based on reliable info or just another rumor? I would speculate an upgrade of the 1Ds and the Rebel is more likely. The 1Ds because it is getting a bit long in the tooth and the Rebel as a response to the Nikon D70. I don't have any inside info.

I'm 95% sure... but I've been wrong before. In any case, what's the harm in waiting for the next crop of Canons (which Jeff has hinted may even be tomorrow)?

No Canons tomorrow as far as I know.

If you were going to replace the 10D, how would you improve it?

Default improvements for 10D

I would improve the autofocus (more accurate).
I would add histograms for each color channel.
Those are the main things.

I'm not greedy, here's what I'd like to see:
  • Faster autofocus with more selection points. Not necessarily a 45-point system like the 1D but more than 7
  • Improve metering modes, specifically a true spot meter
  • Better viewfinder (bigger, brighter, user-replaceable screen, something)
  • Add back the custom function to change the ISO via the SET button on the back (ala D30/D60, personal preference)
  • Lose the flash-strobe for AF assist
  • Less noise at higher ISOs - not that it's bad currently but less is more
