I avoid DIY refillable ink kits. More of a hassle to fill and manually calibrate. Esp. if you want photo quality prints you'll stick with OEM. BTW, OEM stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer" which is ink made directly from HP, Canon, etc. -- the quality of OEM is as good as you'll get. 3rd party ink is where results vary.
With HP, you replace the ink head at the same time as the cartridge, which yields better results when printing to start with a fresh ink head rather than using an older, gunked up ink head. I'll use Office store coupons to get the prices down, along with buying combo kits.
