Default HP R817 LCD Live View Grainy in Low or Moderate Light

Wondering if anyone owns a R817 camera, or has enough user experience to have possibly seen an issue with the live LCD image being very grainy in low or moderate lighting conditions? I'm trying to confirm this is an issue, so I can exchange mine for new one or return it.

I purchased the R817 for a very good price and am generally quite happy with it. However, I am having an issue with the LCD live image being quite grainy when in low or mid lighting conditions. The pictures look fine on the LCD once taken, but the live view is very poor in those conditions. I've seen nothing in the reviews about this, but tested for this condition with the display model at Sam's Club and noticed the same issues. I have older HP cameras and other models that do not exhibit this problem. Wonder if anyone has any experience with this issue or know of other R817 owners to help verify if this exists on all R817s or just on a small number coming from the same lot, in which case I would exchange mine for a new one without this issues.

If this is a common characteristic of all R817, I'm very surprised that this was not mentioned in any of the professional reviews.

Let me know if anyone has any info on this.

Thanks!

I also have this problem. I don't recall having this problem with my old Minolta G400.

The grain/noise seems worse under low light. But it's still there in decent light. In bright light I have trouble seeing the LCD so I don't know if it's there.
