Wondering if anyone can help, apologies if not the right forum!
I wanna take pics of a stream and get the 'flow of the water'.......when i set the shutter speed to 1.5 or 2-2.5 seconds; put on tripod, stand back, set timer.....click .and all i get is a completely white picture, what am i doing wrong?? ;-(
I am not sure I understand exactly but if you are in the daylight you can not use that slow of a shutterspeed.
Now to take photos of waterfalls and to get the silky water (which is what I think you are asking about). I use a ND8 filter and in the daylight with a F8 Aperture its hard to get over 1/4 second without blowing out the highlights.
I now have 2 ND 8's but have not got to try them yet.
For instance this is with the ND filter and 1/10 second exposure it needed more time but not possible with only 1 ND filter.

I think it is very nice ..and you should most likely look at getting a ND 8 filter if you really want to do this you want to strive for about 1/4 second shutter speed on quick moving water like that and perhaps a 1/2 second or more with slow moving water.
Some one told me you can use 2 polarizers for the same effect as a ND 8,buut there are times I even need more than a ND8 and a polarizer so now I have 2 ND8s ,a nd4 and a polarizer.
If that place is near your home try it in less light, maybe just before dark and you will be able to get a little longer shutter speed.
Are there stronger filters than the ND8 that would cut back more light? I am also interested in the silky water (have yet to get a ND8 though). Is there a way to attach two filters onto the camera simultaneously or would you just hold the filter up to the lens with your hand and take the picture?
