Default Is My FZ20 Defective

I recently purchased a new Panasonic FZ20. Pictures are great. But I've noticed a pretty noticeable clicking sound if I quickly shift the camera from a position where the lens is pointed straight out to a position where it is pointed to the sky. I thought it might be the anti-shake feature, but I turned that off and the sound is still there. I'm thinking that it's probably the aperture adjusting to very differnet lighting conditions (bright sky vs. normal lighing condition). But I don't know whether the noise is normal or not. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Thumbs up It’s normal!

That clicking sound is normal. It is the sound that the camera makes while adjusting the Aperture. Here is a cote from the FZ20's Manual’s Troubleshooting section:

The lens clicks: When brightness has changed due to the zoom or the movement of the camera or other, the lens may click and the picture on the screen may be drastically changed, however, the pictures are not affected.
The sound is caused by automatic adjustment of the aperture. It is not a malfunction."

Smile It is normal

Yes, it's normal. And you are the 7109th person who are curious about this sound.

Thank you to all. My 30-day in-store return is running out in the next few days. I was beginning to worry. I've had a number of Canon SLR's in the past. The Lumix FZ20 is my first digital. What a neat camera!
