Default setup for Fz5 tele conversion lens

I am a newbie with an Fz5 and a 2x tele conversion lens with step-down ring that I received for Christmas. I got the lens on the camera ok but I'm not sure what to do next because there doesn't seem to be any difference in the zoom with the extra lens attached. Is there some setting that I need to change or something? This is my first camera and there wasn't even a manual in the box with my brand new camera. Would greatly appreciate any guidance.

First if you got a camera without a manual I would take it back and get a new and unused camera. what was the number of the first photo you took
should have been P0000001

Be my guess this stuff came from EBay and it was not a good purchase.
The lenses from E bay ..so many of them are not as advertised... Do not misunderstand me, some of the sellers are 1st rate but many are not.
