Damaged display

Does anyone know where I may be able to buy a replacement 1.8 inch display screen for my HP M407. I'd like to replace it myself as it seems like a not to difficult task. Just a word of advise don't store your digital camera & cell phone w/ belt clip in the same small space. : OOPS!!

I am having the same problem with my M407 digital camera, only my fell between the seat in my truck. If you find out where to get the screen could you please let me know?

I found a few damaged M407 cameras on ebay, LCDs intact. The descriptions list the damage. I have taken the camera apart and found just a few screws hold the LCD in place which is plugged in with a ribbon cable. I got a camera for $33. I saw another go for $25. Looks easy enough to do it yourself, and for a price of a new camera I think a parts camera is your best bet. I'll post an update of my success.

I bought a parts camera but was perplexed when I went to remove lcd. Does anyone know how to remove the lcd from a hp m407?

there was a clip at the end of the ribbon attaching it to camera. gently pull in direction of bottom of camera and it will release ribbon.

Thanks to this forum I was able to fix my HP407 camera which suddenly after a year and a half started to refuse to shut down and would not accept any inputs from the buttons on the back. The LCD was good so I found a M407 camera on eBay that had a broken LCD display. This seems very common.

The camera was $1 but shipping was $13.50 with no guarantee that the rest of the camera was functional. I removed the 5 black screws and the one silver screw from the outside of the case. The two halves of the case snapped apart without too much effort. I unscrewed the two screws that hold down the metal frame holding down the LCD. I gently pulled down on the ribbon and the end of the ribbon came out of the clamp. I put my good LCD into the eBay camera that had the broken LCD. It is a little difficult to get the end of the ribbon under the white part of the clamp. With a little gentle persuasion it does go in. Make sure it it is in far enough. I reassembled the camera. I turned it on. I took a couple of pictures. It works perfectly!

I may have scared to pull on the ribbon cable to remove the LCD. I may have never figured it out without this forum. Thanks.

I have actually heard that these cameras are rather easy to damage and really hard to find replacement parts in order to fix the problem yourself. I happen to wonder if HP did this on purpose though. I am wondering if they were thinking that they could make more money if people were easily breaking their cameras and HP wasn’t supplying a lot of replacement parts. I know that this sounds like a conspiracy theory but my mind can’t help but wonder if it is somewhat true. I just don’t understand why they would make the camera so easy to break and so hard to fix. It really doesn’t make any sense when you think about it. I really wish that I knew where you could find replacement parts for your camera. The only thing that I could think to suggest is search eBay. Hopefully they’ll have something sometime soon.

I had the same problem with the HP M407, I removed the display got the part number, called HP, asked if I could purchase the part, they told me no, that I would need to send the camera in for repair. Thats not right, to force me to send the camera in for repair, when i can do it myself in five minutes. I think that they should have more respect for their Cusomers.

When these were first released I was working at Staples. We sold 50 of them at xmas and everyone of them came back on boxing day defective. Then HP released a recall on them.

Sure hope they fixed it.
