Default PC will not recognize camera

I have HP 315 photosmart. Since wiping my hard drive I have re-installed software numerous times and in process get 'USBNTMAP.SYS not found windows needs disk labeled ME....' SO, I went that route with no obvious solution. Have tried to add hardware/install driver many times and it seems like it does, but then everytime I try to download images I get the error message: 'Cannot connect camera. close the application, check connection, try again'. I know the cable is good. Other PC's will recognize the camera. I am baffled which is not hard when it comes to computers.

Default Missing USBNTMAP.SYS

Have you obtained a solution to your problem with missing USBNTMAP.SYS file?

I am having same problem, only with a Konica-Minolta Z5 digital camera. Problem arose after having my Gateway Desktop restored to operational status. It has froze, and I took it to local techician who fixed everything. Today was first time I attempted to transfer JPG picture files from camera to computer, and I encountered same-sounding problem that you described.

I will appreciate learning about your follow-on experience(s) with this problem.
