HP Photosmart R507 damaged - uploading help needed

I dropped my Photosmart R507. The zoom lens appears to be out of alignment, and would not retract when I turned off the camera. Now, when I turn it on, the HP Invent screen appers for about 10 seconds, then the camera turns itself off.

The folks at HP tell me that if the camera won't stay on, then there's no way to upload the pictures on the camera. But I'm willing to tinker with the thing a bit. Does anyone here have a suggestion for somehow forcing the camera to stay on? Anything else that might help preserve the pictures on the camera will also be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
