quickest shutter speed

Hi

I'm new to all this and could really use someone's help.

I'm looking for a good digital camera that has a quick shutter speed. I recently bough the Olympus c8080 and while I really like that camera I was disappointed with how long it takes to take a picture. I have a baby who I enjoy taking photos of but getting a baby to pose is impossible...with the Olympus by the time the camera focuses and does it's little song and dance my daughter has moved and I wind up taking a photo of the wall. (I tried manual focus and I could never get the camera to focus well)

Anyhow, can anyone recommend a good camera where if I press the button to take a photo it takes the photo quickly A decent zoom lens would be a plus as well (I like taking photos of birds too)

You Might wannt to try the Panasonic FZ10. Massive zoom,and pretty quick.

As far as point and shoot camera's, the latest Sony's are VERY quick cameras.

I own the DSC-W1, and compared it to MANY cameras before purchasing. The autofocus and shutter lag times were not just quick, but very noticably shorter compared to other similar cameras.

if u want speed get this camera Minolta Dimage A1, it's lightning speed let's u take any and all pictures in every situation the downside it's the price.

The quikest digital point and shoot camera's are the Sony W1 and the Nikon 5200. When you want a really fast digital camera, you have to buy a DSLR camera like the nikon D70 or Canon 300D

probably the quickest shutter on the market is the Fuji f700 almost
instant with no shutter lag.

The best focus and shutter speeds are provided by a dSLR. It's quite an investment, but when considering that this is after your child, and if you miss the moments now, they will never repeat themselves, it's shell out some decent cash myself to get them saved, somehow.

I own a Nikon D70, which is the kit, which a nice lense, and very, very fast focus. If you shoot indoors where light isn't at it's best sometimes, you can get a 50mm f/1.8 lense for 100USD, excellent for the type of shots.

My friend buys 300d for taking photos mostly of his two sons. He changed so many cameras before, but only DSLR offer him enough comfort and speed to catch up his two kids.
DSLR camera must have diferent autofocusing system (witch is better) than anyone no-DSLR camera, even better than all of most expensive prosumer cameras (8080, 8700, A2, PRO1, F828)...

I agree with the DSLR folks. If you are unhappy with the shutter lag on the 8080 (which is one of the fastest PnSers out there), you won't be happy with any other PnS. I recently upgraded to a Digital Rebel(300D) from a Oly 5050, and the speed difference is amazing. Just like your old film camera, you press the shutter and the camera takes the picture instantly. The body with the kit lens won't cost you much more than your 8080 did, and you can buy additional lenses for pictures of your birds!

I'll second that. The Oly8080, out of the whole 8MP bunch ( Nikon Coolpix 8700, Canon PowerShot Pro1, Minolta DiMAGE A2 , Olympus C-8080 WZ ,Sony DSC-F828. ) has the best focus, or maybe just the same as good as the Sony 828, which does have fast auto/manual focus but is followed by a bunch of other problems.
