What the camera does.

I did put this in the bird thread, but never explained what was on the end of my D70 at the time.

Anyway, this little set was taken with a D70 and a Nikkor 500mm f/4D IF-ED AF-S II (UK retail £6,300, but can be picked up for a shade under five grand)

The first two were shot at f/8, ISO 200 and these are as they fell out of the camera. (Not sharpened)

Me being me had to get more reach, so I used an old Vivitar AI-S x2 manual focus teleconverter for this.



Somehow, it felt like putting diesel in a Ferrari.

Speaking of AI-S... Have you tried any of those lenses on the D70?

Handheld, I wish.

I did fire one up into the sky with just the 500 on.


But the weight of this lens means a tripod is needed after a few minutes.

Speaking of AI-S... Have you tried any of those lenses on the D70?

I have an old 80-200 f/2.8 Tokina lens here that cost buttons compared to the modern AF stuff, It works better on the 35mm because centre-weight and spot metering still works, also the 35mm has a focus priority feature as well.

Here's one taken in bad light with the D70. (ISO 800 or 1600?)

If memory serves me well, I had the old AI-S teleconverter on the Tokina, so I had two points to adjust the focus and that explains the higher ISO setting.
