Unhappy SD500 - Red Eye problems

Hi, I recently bought an SD500 camera, it's a good camera except that the amount of red eye in photos taken in poor lighting areas is terrible! Is this unique to Canon or are Canon cameras worse than others? are 7.1mp cameras worse than smaller mp cameras? - the red eye issue has spoiled my enjoyment of this camera so far; any help would be appreciated...

    thanks in advance,

    FergusF

Well, I can't say if it's because it's Canon or not, but when I had my s500, I had redeye in a great deal of my people shots. Now with my sd500, I have the same problem. It's a tradeoff in having such a compact camera to have redeye, because of the proximity of the flash to the lens.
Canon sd500. RiDATA 1 GB. Awesome.

    Hi gnu,

thanks for that; it's a trade-off all right but I am surprised at just how bad the red eye is on such an expensive camera.

    regards,

Small cameras, with the lens close to the flash, will always have problems with redeye. Canons may be worse than some, but it's a problem on nearly all small cameras, no matter the price.

    Hi Dave,

thanks for your reply; Canopn seem to be worse than others (I had a 5 year old 1.1mp Olympus and it was not as bad), I can see a pre flash on other cameras (with red eye reduction on) but I do not see any any from the sd500 - I rang canon and they said that it happened too quickly for me to see it! what good is it if the eye cannot see it!!!

    regards,

    Fergus
