Geoff, that's a nice shot, and I agree it's better with some color in the sky and reflection. My favorite way to do this is to take a picture of the sky and paste it into the image as a new layer, then set the image blending to "Darken." (I use Paint Shop Pro, so the wording might be a little different in Photoshop.) That way, the sky only shows up in areas of the picture that are actually lighter than the new image of the sky (and so you don't have to worry about manually blending it.) If there are any areas where the sky is showing up where you don't want it to, you can just erase that part of the layer.

I don't know if that's how Bynx did it. It looks like he just used one solid color (a little too cyan for my taste, but that's just me,) rather than a picture of the sky.

Tori, that's a nice method. I'll give it a try some time.
If the sky cannot be recovered from the RAW file this seems like a very nice approach.

Geoff, nice picture. The composition and colours are great, though it would have been better if there had been some sky.

Here's a picture I took last week near my house around sunset. I blended four pictures with Photomatix. I used two RAW-files with which I created four different exposures.

Very nice photo Dennis. Only as I would expect from you. The details in the branches and sky has been kept clear and clean.
