Closest I got to misty morning shots down at the local canal recently. The last one seems to have lost it's sharpness somehow after I used warmify in picassa and shrunk it to post

I'm not sure it works in B&W. If you take out the sky there's no lighter tones.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. My problem wasn't so much the colours from the original, but stupid-ass me forgot to bring something along to wipe off water from my front filter and I ended up with big water splotches that pretty well ruined all the colour shots.

That last one is really nice Phill. I would consider cropping off the top of the bridge. That's kind of the look I was imagining when I decided to get up for fog shots, but the sun didn't show up.

Were you using a hood? I have that problem with rectangular GND filters because I don't have a hood for them.

Yep, always do use hoods. However, it rains pretty heavily 'round these parts (Pacific Northwest) and this is the first time I've really tried shooting in the rain, so I guess a learning experience is in order.

Thanks Lukas I just happened to walk round the back of the bridge & saw the sun streaming underneath lighting up the rising mist. It looked quite spectacular as there was a slight breeze blowing swirling it round quite a bit. Difficult to do it justice really. I took several shots as it was difficult to get a good exposure due to the huge difference in contrast. I have bought myself a cokin ND grad but don't have a holder yet so I was trying just holding it for the first 2 shots. Can't remember if I used it on the misty bridge shot or not. I like your idea of cropping off the top of the bridge I hadn't thought of that but it looks much better.

Thats truly beautiful.

Love the sky, the mountains, the water, and the separation with the foreground, they are clearly one element yet each very unique and blending. Beautiful set of layers.

Im guessing HDR ? How many exposures?

The only thing i would do, and thats only become im such a anal perfectionist would be to work towards removing the boats completely. I feel they do not belong in the element. But thats a very personal opinion, you might feel different.

yeah its HDR! 3 shot hand held from -1ev to +1ev.

I hadn't noticed before but I think you may be right about some of the boats, like the ones that you can only half see. They are quite distracting and have no purpose but I think I would keep in the boats that are fully visible as thats how I remember the scene.
