Looks great. If not used, a circular polarizer filter could have helped I think.

Preferences between the two? Note they have different aspect ratios.

first shot for aspect, and the second shot, for shadow illunination. Use a little d-lighting/shadow recovery on the first, and it has my vote.

I agree that the composition on the first is better, but would love to see the gold of the trees from the second in it.

Head north 'til you smack a polar bear, then crank it back 50 miles.

I've gotta go against the grain and say the second, due mainly to that centre mountain being tucked more off to the side and the one on the left being out of the picture all together.
    Critique most definitely desired...

Thanks, here is a new version this time 6:7 aspect ratio rather than 4:5 (I couldn't decide between two shots for the squarer aspect ratio versions, so just stitched them together and cropped as little as possible, hence the different aspect ratio). I think I like this better now.

Unfortunately it seems the gold in the trees was caused largely by about a 30deg. difference in camera angle, resulting in about 15deg front light on one and 15deg. backlight on the other. Backlight seems to make golder gold trees, whereas front light causes white reflections that throw everything off, even with a polarizer as was used here. You can see more of the effect in my previous fisheye pictures.

Edit: also seems to have a little less saturation, oh well same difference.

    tfa8rva,

Great shots. Too bad the moon was a few degrees lower in that last one.

Sometimes the moon just doesn't know when to be there. Nice shots. Alaska is like the Grand Canyon... pictures just can't do them justice, but we try. Very nice.

From the mountains to the beach.
