Here is the Dylan pic, I tried different light sources for this, i.e. natural, late afternoon sunlight through the window and a mix of incandescant & fluorescent light, thought the below pic was the best of three (unfortunately it also highlights the barrel distortion of the Fuji S700's lens at wide angle):

And I agree, the 50mm 1.8 (1.4 would be better! lol) would be a cracker of a lens to begin with when you buy your dSLR. Which dSLR body are you leaning towards?

I've thought a lot about both bodies and lenses over the last few months, have read a lot of reviews here and elsewhere of both, and various 1st/2nd lens buying guide type articles etc.
The body I'd most like to get is the D80.

In addition to the visible barrel distortion in the shot, there is also some perspective distortion as I couldn't get a clean 90' angle straight above or perpendicular to the BD print with the tripod hard up against the edge of the table top, so had to angle the camera slightly (in hindsight I should've propped the print up a bit to compensate for the camera angle). Oh well...

The D80 is a great body & the Nikon & third party lens systems offer ample choice for the full range of shooting opportunities.
(Other options were the Pentax K100D Super and the D40, but in the end I decided I'd wait until I could afford the D80 because I love the configurability or customisation available with it, although I also love the ergonomics of the D40 & build quality of the K100D, ... it was tough to choose between the three as they are all great cameras! , but I'm determined, within reason, not to be limited by any budget constraints this time.)

Don't hold your breath on any Nikon photos from me yet though, it will be a few more months before I can buy the D80 and I still have so much to learn about digital photography per se and, although I'm becoming more aware of the limitations of the Fuji, it's still a great camera and I still enjoy using it.

I checked out some of your Flickr photos Sharon and enjoyed the photos of Bandit, John, Big D & Little D, the sunrise & sunset landscapes, snow etc. The D40 is a great tool and you seem to have had a lot of fun with it so far! If my heart had been set on the D40 then your setup would be the one I'd get, its a great combination of lenses!
