The first photo captures a stunning pose, the second a more relaxed posture, both capture great colour and detail. Beautiful.
The third is a classic, "human in landscape" capture. The ordinariness of the activity highlights the dramatic landscape leading up the valley to the silhouetted ridge-line against the sky. I like the trees on the ridge too.


PS: SharonD, I really like that shot of your husband too, it kinda reminds me of a portrait photo/painting of Bob Dylan I once saw by Franklin Johnson, where Bob was also looking sideways over his shoulder, the picture was called "Don't look back" or something like that.

Hi Brian. Its been a while. I like your shot here. Id like to see some backlight from low down so the hair is outlined and separated from the background a bit.

Yeah I've actually been busy lately. I only have two lights right now. If I had another then I would have placed it really low to the ground pointing up to the background. Also I can use a different color background to help with hair getting lost.

This is the first people picture of mine that I felt was worthy of submitting here. I don't tend to take as many people shots as I do other things so its rare I come across one I really like. Its not exactly the original, I did some editing in lightroom but I like the way it turned out. I like the isolation and the fact that he's faceless. It kind of adds to the mystery of who he is I guess. Hope you enjoy, C&C is welcome. Thanks

These two shots where a bit of an experiment - trying to create a studio lighting effect without studio lighting. Both exposures where long ~15 sec and a torch (flashlight for all the Americans out there!) was moved around the subject to create the multiple light source effect. The only problem with this technique is trying to get a sharp photo involves a LOT of trial and error :P The BW shot is a photo of me so i had to get my flat mate to do the lighting in that one. Im keen to hear what you all think / any suggestions for improvement or a simpler method to get the same effect on a budget.

Thank you, Benjamin, I'm sure lovin' the 50mm. I tried tracking down the pic of Bob you mentioned, but couldn't find it through a google search anywhere, but it was a fun search. Cheers!
