TheWengler, thanks man. Yeah agree with you about the colored mats. They were kind of a last minute experiment and I had to use them because of such short notice.

toriaj, thanks so much. Yeah, I posted all of them here. What a great forum!

    Thanks for your honest comments
It goes to show we are all fallable.
I decided to do a fairly tight crop and liked it - then I thought I would
use NR to smoothen it - followed by some stages of guassian blur around the edges. Finally framing it - I was quite chuffed with it.
seems I didn't need to soften it at all - (I also posted on another site and got
similar comments). So next time I will leave her alone, her skin is smooth enough and it only served to soften/blur the image a bit. As for the pixalation effect - it may be due to the crop - but I thnk it was from me trying to post sharpen the eyes a little - which didn't work after the softening.
all this reassures me that less is more - I usually prefer not to tamper too much.
    cheers

SpecialK - great set of people shots - I especially like the people in the tram and also the walkway shots.

One of the lovely booksellers from Vancouver's Word on the Street 2008.
I'm pretty sure that by this point, he was used to getting his picture taken.

And one more, same Word on the Street 2008, this is Canadian author Mel Hurtig (the joys of open camera allowances)

Was out trying to capture some affection and emotion during a street day and this couple walked in front of me and put their arms around each other and it all seemed to fit nicely,
Critique always good so pick away

    Thanks.
