Alright Lukas, what filter combo did you use for this one, and what was the SS? 1/15th?
The sky is just gorgeous!
Do you have a before to compare to?
I'm going out trying to shoot shots like this and have not been too successful yet.
Waterfront sure would help, too.

Thanks a lot. I think this was the filter set up. Sometimes it's hard to remember because I'm changing things around as the light and my subject changes. I put the soft grad on to help bring back the detail in the breaking wave. I believe I used a 3 stop reverse grad in the first shot I posted from this sunrise. I don't have any before filter shots since I started with filters on.

28mm, f/11, .5 sec, ISO 200

I also prefer to shoot when the retreating water meets the incoming wave. That way I get some color off of the sand, some streaks and the breaking wave.

Whoops! Here's what I started with.


I tweaked the WB to bring back the blues that were there, bumped contrast (especially in the water) and tried to get a little detail back in that rock.

Thanks for posting your filter setup and the SOOC, very helpful. I had never thought of using a filter sideways at the same time as a filter straight up and down. It really worked, though. The colors in the original look so different from the PP colors, that was mostly just white balance? Regardless, your PP is impeccable and very effective.

Yeah, the colors are from the WB correction. For some reason auto WB makes a multicolored sunrise/set mostly orange. At least that's the case on my camera. Not sure why. The edited version is much closer to what the sunrise looked like. A nice reward for rolling out of bed at 5:15 AM.

I've been killing myself for not having enough filters.
I the purist type that wants it mostly done in camera, like your shot.
Filters are so damned expensive, but you know, I'd rather have 2 lenses that can put out some stunning shots than 3 lenses outputting mediocrity.
