Yes well spotted it is indeed the moon. It was a lovely crescent but as I don't have an adaptor yet I couldn't use my zoom lenses to get much closer.

I seldom post here because I don't feel that I am generally up to the standards you people are looking for, but I believe that this one, processed from a DNG file captured while using CHDK, came out nice.

Daniel no need to worry about posting images. Especially if that's an example of what you are getting, that one's a beauty, a lovely atmospheric sunrise captured very well.

Sorry Phill D, I should have noted that it's a sunset. In addition, on the winter solstice the sun will set directly behind Mt. Fuji and the Japanese refer to that phenomenon as "Diamond Fuji". Probably the best example is here: http://danwiz.com/OldIndexPages/Janindex.php You can find some examples of Diamond Fuji on our website - there is a site search box at the top of the page, simply input Diamond Fuji there and hit enter.

Thanks for your nice feedback too!

Dan, we here are pretty much amateur shooters who occasionally make a buck or two from our endeavors. Missed your photos of Japan, as I realize my chances of returning grow smaller with my savings. Your photos are certainly as good as any here, so keep up the posts.

Love the shot of Fuji in silhouette. I posted a couple of JR rail shots on the Nikon POTD thread. Yamanote line between Shinagawa and Akihabara.

Nikon ILC/DSLR, Photo Of The Day thread. It's mainly track shots and Kanda Station (I think), with a Nozomi (returning from Osaka).

Daniel great sunset then Had a look at your Diamond Fuji shots too - pretty impressive. I'd love to go one day. Only made one brief work trip to Japan several years ago and loved it.

Ah. A Robert Frost Moment. Maybe a little to early for deep midwinter.
