I had watched these finch appear to be drinking hummingbird nectar? for days. Today with continuous shooting I caught him looking at the juice, drinking, and throwing head back to swallow. This is of him swallowing.
The finch does not have a reddish head yet. May be female or young one. The red is cast from the red juice in feeder.
This is shot # 246 of new S2. The Auto Focus may be just a tad better than my trusty Uzi...at least yesterday it took Uzi longer to lock at full zoom on at same subject than it did for the S2.
I have seen house finches raiding our humming bird feeders as well. I have actually posted a series of shots of squirrels doing the same. I guess there are bunch of animals out there with a sweet tooth.
A friend of ours, who is an avid birder, has lectured me on putting red dye in our hummingbird feeder. She says it is not good for the birds. My wife now makes it without the dye and the hummingbirds keep coming.
