The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Southern California. I like the 55-300, but it really does not work well for birds.
Large flock in the background.

A little island in the mud flats.

Incoming.

A brief hop.

Stalking fish.

These are really nice Rooz. 1 and 3 are my favorites. These animal shots you've gotten lately really jump off the screen. I don't know if you posted it anywhere on DCRP but the Koala on your Flickr page is very nice as well. I'm assuming you're using your 300mm f/4 for most of them? Are you using the TC too?

thanks Lukas, i used a mixture really. a bit of everything. unfortunately it was a terribly overcast day which really hurt me cos all the skys are blown on the kyte shots.
if i had reviewed the shots on my LCD halfway thru shooting that kyte i could have wound my shutter speed down by 4 or 5 stops. i reckon 80% of the kyte shots are in focus, (which is was stunned at !!), but all of them are grossly underexposed. i'm such a dumbass.

Yeah Rooz you really are an amazing photographer man. Every time I get on here I'm looking forward to what new shots you have for the day.

Rooz, I love #1, just perfect. What are your usual-ballpark settings for Unsharp Mask?

(the last parameter is zero cos i dont know what it does. lol)
i should prob run USM after i resize cos the original has even better detail.

Ok, thanks that helps (those #s are in NX, right? I don't know if PS #s line up quite the same.)

Rooz-- I like #1, but man, #2 is great: nice composition, perfect exposure, and the dark background beautifully isolates the subject. Lovely.

yes, that is in NX.
intensity 15
radius 5
threshold 0
if anyone can tell me what the hell threshold means it would be much aprpeciated.
thanks adam. that seagull shot is actually blurry cos of wind and camera shake. not as sharp as i like but the effect grew on me. interestingly this is exactly the same effect i spent ages trying to acheiev with strobes a while ago. this time the condtions just worked out that i didnt need flash at all, just metered off the gull and thats pretty much untouched, SOOC.
