    hummingbird eggs

There are some wonderful shots, here. I've looked at only a small part of this thread, so far.

Nothing spectacular about this shot, but it's of a hummingbird nest with two eggs. I dangled my keys down beside the nest for perspective. The eggs were about the size and shape of Tic-Tacs.

    hummingbirds - the saga continues

Eight days after the photo of the eggs above, here are the two hatched chicks (I don't know what day that they hatched). Obviously, they've grown since hatching, but notice that there's still some egg yolk in the nest.

hummingbird chicks - the saga continues

Another six days later and here are the chicks again - a little bigger and facing the opposite direction in the nest.

hummingbirds - the saga almost done

Five more days later and they're bigger yet and back to facing the original direction in the nest.

    hummingbird saga - the conclusion

Another five days and there's only one chick in the nest (I'll assume that the other was flying about) and, while we were watching it, it flew to a nearby branch. The nest has by now been splayed open with the size of the chicks' bodies.

    hummingbird saga - epilogue

On each visit, Hummingbird Dad, of course, was flying about trying to scare me away. In some of my shots (not shown) Hummingbird Mom could be barely seen in the high distance.

Well, I hope that you enjoyed this little saga. I'm looking forward to seeing more of others' bird pictures.
