An aside to the story...threw a towel over him (he was trying to fly through a closed window). Not being a huge bird I picked him up bare-handed. That's a no-no! Those talons pierced into my finger. I saw why once a creature is snagged by one of these there is no shaking free - those claws sink in like a fish hook - go in and curve upwards. Had to put towel over his eyes and pull each claw out individually. You could have heard me scream a block away when he did this!
Ouch! That gotta hurt. These are vicious creatures they tear up the other birds like pillows. You are lucky that hand is still in one piece.
love the colors on that killer pigeon, as to the crow/heron. are you sure? it looks like a crow, only longer legs, longer beak and 30 times its size. oh, and a lot prettier
No I'm pretty sure that's a (really well dressed) crow wearing stilts.

Ha! See, I can change...
XOO... great bird shots. Are you an Audubon member?
No, but I have both the Eastern Region and Western Region of the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds which has excellent photos of various birds. I live outside city limits and have been feeding/photographing birds which come to our yard to feed for years. When I got the C2100UZ back in '00 or '01, birdwatching became fun!
I'm currently working at a farm (a special kind I believe is mainly found here in Sweden - one that aims to educate children on how to interact with animals) and brought my camera for a day... it's a bit easier for me since I don't have to worry about them suddenly flying away. Here are some of the shots:
I've found the only way to get a great pose is by accident. When I have the subject, I shoot in rapid fire. With SHQ that is only about five shots. In HQ I can get seventeen. 98% of shots aren't worth saving! Maybe that's why I'm nearing 16,000 shots on this camera!!!
