Thanks, Falconest. I was watching the backyard bird action a few hours today. Kept grabbing the camera even in the rain and poor light. Had a few others I wish had come out better, but can't really handhold the 50-500 at 1/30th and expect keepers. heck, it is tough enough on the monopod.
Was walking a local park and saw this Mallard drake resting in the shade. He didn't seem too pleased when I moved in for some closeups although he didn't move away. I guess he was too lazy to move out of the nice shade.

Still practicing with the Bigma. DOF is shallow at 500mm. I did get this nice woodpecker shot. I threw a little PS lens blur in the background to soften the noise.
Thanks. I have begun the investigation into the next piece of gear, the Better Beamer. Just hope I don't need a flash upgrade to use it in the backyard.
Spent the afternoon at the local nature center with the 50-200 and the Bigma 50-500. Mainly there for a birds of prey show, but it was indoors, crowded and poor light. So I went walking on the river. This heron wandered along a small grassy area about 2-300 feet away. He managed to find some dinner, but it put up a fight for about 5 minutes. Eventually it was slurped down.
