I can't believe we haven't started a bird thread. A little harder to shoot than flowers and lighthouses. But most times worth the effort. Ducks and Geese are allowed.
If I'm not mistaken this is a Cactus Wren pearched atop his/her "high-rise" condo. (f8, 1/250, ISO200, 125mm, Sigma 18-125) If you would like to see the condo and the neighborhood...

Capitial idea! I can't wait to get home and dig up some pix...
The cactus wren is a cool shot...never saw one before...

Maybe edit out the cactus edge on the right?
To be honest, up close and personal, neither had I. This one was pretty fearless, the rest split by the time I got within 20 feet, but then who is going to climb up there an get him/her? This particular Suguaro was about 15-20 feet tall and was home to at least 10 nesting birds.
I though about editing the cactus in the upper right corner, but decided to keep it in for character.
Here is another resident perched at the opening to one of the 10 nesting holes.

Ha! See, I can change...
I checked out the rest of the desert shots...awesome beauty. Really nice work.
Many thanks for that. The Sonoran Desert is a pretty awsome place. Unfortunately I spend far too little time actually in the "wild desert" part. I may start riding horses again, just for that purpose.
Almost every dusk the sky is ablaze. Add clouds it becomes a "sailors delight". The state flag pretty much says it all. Not to wander too far off topic, but this is a typical example. One of the few shots that turned out using the Tamron 28-300 (I just didn't have the patience to fool with it).

Nice pelican. Here is an Osprey nest. Taken with the 100/300 telephoto with 2x Teleconverter on Tv at 1/250 f5.6 on tripod with cable release. Distance from subject was approx. 50yds. Minor cropping for contrast. hope you like
