this is absolutely stunning. wow.
what focal length are these that you can get so close to the birds ?

These shots were taken on a planned shoot - the birds are captive and taken to the forest. we were able to get pretty close to them. The eagle owl shot was taken with Canon 100-400 lens. Settings were: Manual focus and exposure. F9.0,1/160, iso 200, 400mm, tripod mounted and remote shutter.
thanks for your kind comments.

Young Starling
Taken yesterday whilst enjoying the sun in the garden - first time for a long while!
We are currently being invaded by these little guys - this one was taking a break from fighting over the food on the bird table and decided to cool off at the drinker.
Hope you like

Tech details: (I was hoping to get some flight shots hence the settings)

Skomer
Hi all
Just spent a few nights on Skomer island and thought I would share a few shots of the birds encountered:
Curlew in Flight - my first capture of this species, the bird was defending its nest from the gulls:

The Puffin gang: Not sure what these three were gossiping about:

Manx Shearwater - these little guys only come to land to breed, they nest in abandoned rabbit burrows, about 150,000 pairs nest on the island but they are rarely seen as they spend the day at see only returning after dark to feed their young. The reason......to avoid being eaten by the gulls:
This shot was taken after midnight, the bird was lit using a torch and the shot taken with flash:

Hope you like - there will probably be lots more to come!

Val I love your Curlew in flight. Ive been shooting birds since I got my S700 just over a month ago and can appreciate the difficulties with getting a nice shot with everything in place. As for the Puffins, Im sure they are discussing the next clown convention. It looks like they still have their makeup on.
