My latest bug pic (and a buddy)

The first picture fits the thread but the second doesn't really fit into any of the dedicated ones and I didn't want him to be lonely in his own thread.

Unhappy And God appeared before this bug

I admit I suck at photographing bugs. I used a canon S2 (supermacro mode) probably an inch away from this guy. As you see my camera shadowed the bug and therefore the lighting sucks and this guy was moving really really fast.

I wish I could manage to magnify and expose these bugs as beautifully as Jeff31 does

Yesterday was the first time I've been able to get close to one of these—something I'd always wanted to photograph.

ImmQuest, instead of using supermacro or even macro mode, try using full zoom instead while standing as close as you can and still allow the camera to focus. That's how I got these.

Thanks, Spot Focus. Those are the actual backgrounds as shot, with full zoom and aperture wide open. The background of the first picture from top to bottom is the sky, the far shore of the lake (trees), the lake itself, and the sand on the shore. In the third picture I bumped the saturation level in-camera up a notch, almost making the weeds in the background too green.
