Firstly I would like to say hallo to you all. I must admit I'm very impressed by all the pictures on here. Thanks to Jeff and Bald eagle for the huge amount of fantastic shots. I've decided to take up the hobby. I bought a D70s a few days ago will recieve it this week. After looking at all these wonderful pictures i decided to invest in a macro lense. So my choice fell on Sigmas 180mm. Does anyone have any experience with this lense? maybe some of you can give me some good beginners tips to macro photography.
SamPhilly, thanks for the kind words, what you are holding is called an assasin bug, some are known to stab humans and can spread a dreadful disease known as Chagas, to humans. Just thought you might like to know.
Claus, thanks as well for the kind words, first, youre getting a great lens, second, invest in a tripod, in the Macro world, the slighest movement can cause blur. hope this helps a little.

I love this thread - but don't really contribute much because: -
a) I could use a close up lens - though the C-740 goes down to 3cm at 38mm
b) There don't seem to be the sorts of creatures I find on this thread in my neck of the woods.
c) So often conditions are not good - windy and not enoug light for a quick shutter.

Ok so Here's a little spider in a web outside my house - I took it on both cameras - this one is the A-200 as it's tele-macro blurs the background more.
I slightly cropped it as well - but the spider was smaller than my small finger nail so this is as good as I can get it!!
1/15th sec @ F4.5 ( I try to get as close to f5.6 as poss) A-200 telemacro 200mm AS, ISO 100
Update: That critter is a wheel bug. I read that this type is knowns to pinch really hard, so she really lucked out. Bald Eagle, I've read that Chagas is typically found in SE Asia assassins bug.
