Bald Eagle : Amazing shot !!! I wish i have more than my compact to try to get these kind of pics
Here's one i made yesterday anyway....
ALKAPHUNK- is that straight off the camera? Does it go in that close - or did you crop it - either way that Nikon certainly is nice and sharp - and you certainly have a steady hand - great job!!!
JEFF31 - your little guy looks like he's just setting off for another day at the office!!!

Yes Geoff i croped it a bit to get in it more .
The 5900 allow me to stay around 3cm (4cm to get a lil' more focus depth)
On the test gallery (my signature) there's a shot of the bee cropped and full size to give an idea of how close you can get.

Aha - much like my C-740 then - can you change the focal length (zoom) in Macro mode?? The C-740 is fixed at equive 38mm - it works quite well. The A-200 is strange as it has either 28mm or small zoom of around 180 - 200 in macro at the wide end it's range is 30 - 60cm - not much help!! but at the tele end it's 25cm - 60Cm - which gives a decent close up - if not quite the very closest. But it is a bit strange, and normal focus is from 50cm - infinity - so the overlap is small and can result in it not wanting to focus if you are on the borderline in the wrong mode - I'm used to it now though and all I want now is an additional close up lens for the real close ups.
Yours seems to work very well for you anyway.
Yeah Geoff, same for me (as with lots of compacts cam i think) i can stay at 38mm or 41mm only these 2 positions.
I try to stay the closer i can to get focus OK and try not to move
Anyway as you say, it works quite good for me for now
