Setup - 12, 20 and 36mm ETs, with tripod and available light

Have to agree with Geoff and the others your macro shots are absolutely stunning.
I notice you use extension tubes and a macro lens. Do you need both? The reason I ask is I've wanted a macro lens for a while but the 50mm Oly one is a bit pricey for me currently but I do have enough residual cash from Christmas to go for an extension tube. Is it worth a try coupling an extension tube to my current zoom lenses. (i've got the Oly kit 14-42 & 40-150 plus the 70-300 lens) in the meantime?

Whats the minimum focus distance or magnification on the 70-300 before you whack tubes on it? How sharp is it at 200-300mm?

I believe the math works out like this (as explained by Drama)...
Lens magnification ratio + (Extension tube length/focal length) = New magnification ratio
I believe you also lose some light as well as the ability to focus to infinity with extension tubes.
