So I took 2 seperate photos at different exposures from the same spot.
Then I married them together - cheating a little by putting them a bit closer together!!!

Geoff thanks for the tip off on this you got some fantastic shots from the ground. Thought I'd try to get a bit closer though so I got together with an RAF test pilot friend of mine & we took a high altitude ride out in one of the test vehicles to get as close as possible. I then used a pretty smart telescope to put on the end of my Olympus. Managed to get the red dust clouds of mars with the moon reflecting in the aircraft window. Sorry about the instrument reflection from the scratched glass in the middle though. Didn't notice that till I got back. .

...If nobody guesses the real explanation of this pic then I'll post it later.

Explanation.... well not PPed at all, I just forgot about your tip off Geoff & it was too late and too cold to do much outside when I remembered, plus I was the wrong side of a bottle of wine by then. Anyway the shot was taken through double glazing and the red splodge is the reflection of the interior tungsten lights. The moon is the overexposed white area & the so called scratch is actually Mars. I'm afraid IS is no compensation for alcohol and a slow exposure! Perhaps I should have waited until April the 1st & started a new thread.
