    Some Yurpeean flowers, part 1

Here are some from my trip to NL and DE in May.

First some bleeding hearts from my mother's garden:

A little "bouquet" consisting of one orchid, buttercups and as Cuckoo flower:

The chestnuts were in flower, here is a white one:

    And a red one:

Talking about red, here is an Azalea:

And talking about Azaleas, here is a purple version:

    Some Yurpeean flowers, part 2

    A Centaurea ("corn flower"):

    And a Campanula:

Here is a close-up of that orchid in the bouquet in the previous post:

Some "real" cuckoo flowers (Lychnis flos-cuculi):

The flower of some sort of onion:

    A "stand" of polygonum:

    Some ordinary clovers:

And finally, to break the pink/purple streak, a Primula vera:

Those are some convincingly pink Clematis Geoff! I like the shot where they are coming down along this vertical fence.

I've been embarked for a while on this project of getting a sharp picture of a bindweed. The problem is that the flowers are relatively deep, which means DOF problems with a close-up. I finally got something where most of the flower is reasonably sharp, 1/125, F19 and a monopod:

    Another back-lit attempt, a Queen Anne's Lace:

I'm not sure what that ball-thing is that you can see in the middle. Maybe an upside-down Lady bug?

    And finally some Swamp Vervain:

You can see the swamp in question in the background (ok, its a lake made by a gravel pit).

Gerard - very good job on the bindweed - I know how hard that must have been!!
I also like the Queen Anns lace backlit shot - that works nicely!
    and
The Swamp Vervain is a lovely photo generally.

Thought I'd have a go at backlighting a gladioli. Not sure Dame Edna would approve though

Phil - that's wonderfull - I love the lighting and the detail is still clear - was it fill in flash or just adjustment of exposure??
(It looks like adjustment of exposure got it right)
