Today I have another of these plants that are native to Europe but have been naturalized in North America: Brown Knapweed, Centaurea jacea (Asteraceae). It is family of the blue cornflower (C. cyanus).

First an overview shot of a bunch of them growing beside a path:

Here is a close-up of one flower:

And another close-up that also shows the bud you get when the flower is finished:

Finally, the bees like them too:

    Gerard - nicely presented selection.
I like the way you introduce the overall view first then get in closer.
Quite busy at the moment - not got anything new to post - but keeping an eye on the threads.
Keep it up - I don't know how you find the time but your doing a great job with the pics.

    Red Lotus &

One of my favorite places to visit every July is Perry's Water Gardens in Franklin NC.
The Lotus are in full bloom then & are the most interesting flowers.
I sometimes feel they must have evolved in another galaxy.
attached is a red lotus in full bloom & (hopefully) a very small iris

    Greenhouse and garden flowers

Just a couple of flowers out and about.
Fantastic colours to your flowers Jeff31, I am still jealous. I need to get some decent web space so I dont have to reduce my image quality so much to post, I suppose practice makes perfect.

    I love your passion flower.
I have been meaning to get one for my garden for ages.
    They have a fantastic structure.

Arron, do please tell us how you get that black background? Is it your software?
