Really nice - do you like that camera? Is it new??
Thanks Geoff. Yes, the camera is new, I've had it for a week now. What they say about DSLR's is true: you have to get used to them, certainly when you are coming from a P&S. That seems to mean 1) finding settings that work for you, and 2) thinking about exposure adjustment much more than with a P&S. But once you do that life (and the pictures ) improve. This flower was one of the first pics that I really liked. And, of course (shameless plug coming up) the cow I posted in the Moo Factor thread. The camera is generally very pleasant to work with. It holds well, it has a great viewfinder, and all functions you want to easily access are easily (i.e. without menu digging) accessible.
Interesting stuff - Maybe one day....
My heart really yearns for a dSLR but my life & my family require something a little more discreet!!
I am going away on a course for a week - so please everyone keep up the good work & post lots of great shots for me to find when I get back.
Speak to you all later
Geoff
For a first shot of a Rose, Its an awesome shot. great color and sharpness. well done.
Thanks Bald Eagle for the kind comments. I did take some others at the same time but I think this was the best. Red roses, in fact red flowers in general, seem to be more difficult to photograph. They seem to come out oversaturated with little definition of the flower parts. I am not sure whether this is me or a weakness of the Canon A80 - or possibly both I shall keep trying different settings till something nice happens!
