Tim I thought the sigma 105 was a real macro lens and a pretty good one at that.
It's true about the 105 Phil but that shot was taken back in 2009 and was only edited and posted recently. It was shot with a crappy Nikkor 24-85 F2.8-4.0 that I returned one week later for the 16-85VR. It was badly calibrated and couldn't get sharp focus at anything below F/5.6!
I haven't done any macro shots since despite having real capability now. Maybe this summer.
It is about the end of the season here for outdoor flowers. I shot these over the weekend. Cannot recall what they are called, but they are some of the last to bloom in the western North Carolina hills.
Lots of really nice blooms shot recently - all of them worthy of a mention

So I am guessing that the S95 has the 'selective color' mode. About time you blokes from the other side of the world added to the flower thread. For us northerners it is greenhouse and florist time if we want flower shots.
Yes, the S95 has the usual Canon 'My Colours' mode, but I didn't use that mode for the shot. All the colour manipulation was done in Picasa 3, which makes it very simple to get some great colour effects. I think the overall look is very 'Tim Burton-ish', don't you?
Just for comparison, here's the original photo. It's OK, but I don't think it has the dramatic impact of the altered one. Still, not bad for a point-and-shoot on a windy day. Taken at 1/60s, f/2.5, ISO 80.
I'll try to keep the Antipodean end up with some more photos, but lately it's been too bloody hot to go wandering about with a camera!
