Why so hard for a "perfect" compact camera?

    hi guys

I already have a larger camera, and they are easier to find with the following
    features:

Very good image quality. At least 5x optical zoom. Good vga movies.
    Image stabilised.

I am looking for a compact (pocket) camera and there are a lot of great ones out there, but lack 1 or 2 of the above features which prevent it from being "perfect".

It is always the case that one model may have all the above but have poor movie mode.. Or all the above but only 3x zoom.
Or a newer model comes out and increases the optical zoom..only to ruin its movie mode!

Am I the only one here who thinks this?
Or am I living in fantasyland?
    Thanks,

    Mario

Check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ2 with 5MP and 6x Image Stabilized Optical Zoom. Or the Ricoh Caplio R2 with 5MP and optical 4.8x zoom (although not sold in US).

Looking at the review, the panasonic does not have an optical veiw finder, is really not a pocket camera and does not have the best movie mode.
It is just too hard to cram everything into a super small camera otherwise everyone would have one.
I imagine as time goes on they will get better.

    Certainly fine choices.

Perhaps I must resign to the fact that I cannot have everything.
Unfortunately, and although fairly minor things, neither of them
have an optical viewfinder and 640x480 vga movie mode.

I guess I can live without the finder and probably wouldnt use
the vga mode anyway because of zero compression massive short
    movies!

    Thanks.

You may want to look at the Panasonic Lumix FX7 camera.

    Peace

What about the canon IXUS 50?

I am also looking for a decent 5MP cam with video

I just tried this canon and about to compare it to the pentax optio X.

If you guys know which of anything better please let me know.

Pentax Optio SV has 5x zoom, but probably nothing else.
