I'm a complete newb but I'm looking for some helpful criticism. Also, the barn pics didn't look as dark on my monitor at home as they do here so I hope they look ok.

How about giving us some larger shots, about 700 pixels wide would be nice.
I like the barn, but the last fence IMO should've been converted to gray scale as well, since the tinge of green distracts.

I'll have to put the larger pics up tomorrow. I first uploaded them to snapfish (bad idea) and all snapfish would let me do was redownload them in low-res. I have my originals on my hard drive at home and I'm on dial-up so I'll just copy them to my jumpdrive and do it from work.

I was finally able to get the full size images uploaded to my webspace provided to me by my isp. I'm considering signing up for smugmug or pbase but I want to get into this a little more before I commit.

Ewins, these are much easier to look at. Just a couple of comments:

barn: both barn pictures look like they might have had an interesting composition going, but the barn's top is cut off in both pictures in favor of including the grasses in the foreground. Unfortunately (IMO), the grasses have little contrast or interest, and both pictures seem to need a bit more exposure and contast as well; very little white in them.

Dawn is a lovely sky, nice exposure there, but the foreground is a bit too dark. It would've been nice to lower the contrast a bit to draw a bit more detail out there.

The leaves shot has lots of nice detail in it; my complaints here are two: the composition is focused on a folded leaf that is cut off, and in terms of classic composition it's "too centered"; also, your flash has overpowered the exposure and washed out the green to white; the color has lost its saturation. Try powering back the flash or use a sheet of paper or something as a diffuser, then, if still necessary, up the saturation a bit in post processing.

Thanks for the comments, very informative. I can see your points about the barn. I may try reshoot it and see if I can get some better looking photographs from it. I knew it was missing something, I just couldn't put my finger on it.

Good shots Ewin- I enjoyed them. I agree with some of the points of interest and topics of improvement, I am in your boat, newbzilla! I am currently learning as much as I can with my Canon A95 P&S. I will post a few pictures that I would like to hear comments on and so you can see that I am learning like you! I am taking some advice that I read in a book somewhere once and because we are using digital it is so very easy and important... shoot away.. take more and more and more pictures.. the more we take, the more we will grow and learn... Thats not word for word but i think it about covers it.
