Our friends have just got another kitten - so I took a few photos
I was really happy with the results though! - it was in there front room in the
    evening and I didn't use flash - so it was ISO1000, F5.6 and 20th sec &
    utilising the VR

    Awww what a cutie Geoff!

I just got a kitten myself. Lil Oatis is 10 weeks old and he's damn near impossible to get a shot of because 90% of the time, he's playing in HYPER SPEED. This is the most high energy cat I've ever owned . Anyway here are a few I took using the 50 1.8 aka Nifty fifty aka Plastic Crap Lens .

    EOS 450D (XSi) | Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II | 50mm f/1.8 II | 18-55mm IS f/3.5-5.6 | 55-250mm IS f/4-5.6 | Speedlight 430EX II

    Some of my pics...

I bought a new camera. It's very advanced - you don't even need it. ~Steven Wright

Nice Geoff. It almost looks like it was taken in a studio.

    Haha!!
I like the lighting on your second shot Lukas
I thought the same with Oliver - the blankets were sufficiently out of focus

My cats come into the house looking like that--covered in leaves & dust & crap--and acting as if everything was normal.
