Thanks Glenn. Sound would be nice; in our hotel room we could hear the rumble of the falls below, very impressive.

Here are some more falls-related pictures. First a seagull keeping an eye on things:

The next picture is looking up-river from the falls. The bridge-like structure you see in the distance is the international control structure, it regulates how much water is diverted for power generation. The rules say that during tourist season (everything except winter) no more than 50% can be diverted during the day time (until 10:00 pm). After that, and in the winter, 75% gets diverted.

This is another shot in the same direction. On the right you see an old, defunct, power station. More or less in the middle are the remnants of a boat that has been stuck for a long time:

Here we are a bit closer to that boat:

    And even closer:

(well, at least more zoomed in...)

The old power station has an inlet with an interesting vehicle on it:

My guess is it was used to open and close the gates on the inlet.

Finally, here is a shot of "down town" Niagara Falls:

As you can see, down-town basically is a bunch of hotels.

Try right-clicking on the empty box where the picture should be and selecting "Show Picture" (assuming you have a PC).

    That's a beautiful shot, Redbird.

EDIT: No, now that I'm on a different computer, I realize that "Show Picture" doesn't work either. I had to right-click on the empty square, select "Properties", highlight the image link, copy it, then paste in in the address bar.

That worked for me too. Thanks for posting the directions, sjseto. I didn't know how to do that before.

Thanks sjseto, I've learned with digital to take LOTS of pictures. Once in awhile, you get one that comes out just right

I looked at your galleries. Vancouver is a great place for photographer.

    Taughannock Falls State Park

A little ledge at Taughannock Falls State Park. This < 1ft high 'waterfall' is only a few minutes walk from the 215 ft high fall pictured here:

This is also my first attempt at converting to B&W. I think it came out pretty well even if it isn't as dramatic as the big fall.

    Comments and criticism are welcome.

    Aaron,

That is a nice shot. I like B&W in some situations. The shadows will say a lot more than color sometimes. I really like the composition, the way the lines are in the shot.

    Thanks for sharing
    Sean
