    have you ever checked out the aperture setting on both cameras? I think that was what make the difference.

    i did the 1/focal length.
    in real world, it would be handheld, to the minimum aperture was used to maximize light gathering. and 1/80 to minimize the effects of camera shake and blur.

    i will redo the test again using a tripod and putting them both in aperture priority, however this will not yield more accurate results for handholding, as the sony will no doubt require somewhere near 1/4 or perhaps slower....
    the histogram on the sony was not too bad when I took the picture, it just came out really poorly.
