Hi Darren - I have a Panasonic DVX100 as well. These guys will answer your question "toot sweet" (pardon my french).

    http://www.dvxuser.com/V3/

It's an excellent forum for all things digital video and is definitely the premeire DVX100 forum (tell Jarred I sent you - he's the site admin. )

As for your question, a couple of things: first you can set the camera to record the audio on both tracks (channels) if you want. It won't be true stereo but it will output sound from both speakers on a stereo TV. Attach the mic to XLR connector #2 and then use the CH1 and CH2 select switchs (found under the LCD screen) and set them both to "Input 2". That will record your audio to both channels.

As far as the audio not working on playback, I'm not sure what you mean. You'll need to hook up RCA cables between the red/white audio out on the camera and your TV/VCR to be able to hear sound on your TV. If you are connecting to a computer, the audio should play over Firewire and it should be part of the .avi file that is created after you capture your video to the hard drive. You do need video editing software such as SONY Vegas 5, Adobe Premeire, Avid Express and so on to capture the video. The camera records both audio and video directly to the mini DV tape so if you can see video, and if while recording you saw the audio levels jumping up and down in the LCD, then the audio must be there someplace. Hope that helps.
